Frequently Asked Questions

Here's everything you need to know about our classes at Young Guns Skate School. If you have any questions that we haven't covered below, please feel free to Contact Us

What happens if it's raining?

If the weather is really bad on the day of a class, classes may be cancelled. If we do have to cancel a class, a text message will be sent out to all parents who have booked for that class one hour before the start of the class. If you have paid for that class already, you will be credited. Skatepark Tours will run in most conditions.

First time skateboarder?

Students of all abilities are welcome at our classes, including beginners. Classes are split into groups where students will skate with those of a similar skill level (students are also welcome to be in the same group as friends). This is also dependent on the size of classes. Our instructors will make your child feel very welcome upon arrival and any nerves will disappear as soon as the wheels start rolling. As long as your child isn't better than us at skateboarding, then we can help!

Do I need my own skateboard and helmet?

Students are encouraged to bring their own skateboard and helmet to classes. If not, we have plenty of spare skateboards and helmets that can be used at no extra cost. Please read below if you would like to find out where to buy a suitable skateboard.

Where can I buy a skateboard?

It is important that a skateboard of a suitable quality is used to be able to learn to skate properly and safely. Our very own Young Guns Skateboards are made especially for kids who are learning to skateboard. To purchase a Young Guns Skateboard, please visit the shop section on our website.

Otherwise, the main thing with buying a skateboard is to make sure you purchase one from a skateboard shop and not from stores like the Warehouse, K-Mart or Rebel Sport. This is to avoid issues with quality. Good stores to visit are Cheapskates, Bordertown, Trainers or Backdoor Surf n Skate. You want to ask for a ‘beginners complete’ skateboard that is sized no smaller than 7.5 inches wide or no bigger than 8 inches wide. Just a standard length and shaped board is good. Mentioning Young Guns Skate School may help too.

I need to cancel or modify a booking

If your child is no longer able to attend a booked class/tour. You can modify your booking by logging in to your Enrolmy account. Once logged in, click the ‘Modify Booking’ button and you can easily make the desired changes.

If cancelling a booking at short notice (within 12 hours of the start of the class/tour). Please email us to let us know. A credit note for any missed classes will be given if notice of non attendance is given before the times below:

After School classes: Notice required before 12pm on the day of the class.
Holiday Programmes: Notice required 2 hours before the start of the class.
Skatepark Tours: Notice required before 7:30am on the day of the tour.
Private lessons: Direct notice required 1 hour before the start of the lesson.

A full charge will apply if notice of non attendance is not given before these times.

Email info@younggunsskateschool.co.nz to give notice of non attendance. Please include your child's first and last name.

I have a credit note, how can I use it?

If you have credit with us, this credit can be used at any time and towards any Young Guns class in future. To use your credit, please follow the below steps:

- Make a booking for any Young Guns class through our website or on Enrolmy.
- Click ‘save booking’ and then the booking is made.
- Don’t pay the invoice for that booking (click out of the payment screen)
- Email info@younggunsskateschool.co.nz to let us know about your booking.

From there we can allocate the credit to the invoice for that booking. A new invoice will then be sent through if there is a remaining amount to be paid.

How old does my child have to be?

Children aged 5 years old and up can join our classes. For children around this age, we may ask that a parent or caregiver can assist your child during classes under our guidance if needed. If you have a super star skateboarder that is under 5 years old, please free to contact us and I'm sure they can join us.
